Veterans Day is a national holiday celebrated in the United States on November 11th each year. It is a day set aside to honor and thank all of the men and women who have served in the military and protected our country.
The origins of Veterans Day can be traced back to the end of World War I, when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was signed on November 11th, 1918. This day became known as Armistice Day and was set aside as a national holiday to honor the soldiers who had fought in World War I. In 1954, Armistice Day was officially renamed to Veterans Day to honor all veterans, not just those who had served in World War I.
There are many ways that people choose to celebrate Veterans Day. Some people attend parades and ceremonies to honor veterans, while others choose to volunteer their time or make donations to organizations that support veterans. Many schools and businesses also hold special events or activities to recognize and honor veterans.
One organization that is dedicated to supporting veterans is the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Another way that people can show their support for veterans is by participating in the Wreaths Across America program.
