The patch of blue was a small but significant part of my childhood. It was a small patch of blue sky that I could see through my bedroom window, and it became a source of comfort and inspiration for me.

Growing up, I lived in a busy and crowded city, and my bedroom was located in the back of our apartment building. The only natural light that I had came from this small patch of blue sky, which was often obscured by the tall buildings and pollution that surrounded my home.

Despite its small size, the patch of blue was always a source of beauty and wonder for me. On clear days, it was a bright and vibrant blue that seemed to stretch on forever, inviting me to dream of all the possibilities that lay beyond it. On cloudy days, it was a softer and more muted blue, but no less beautiful in its own way.

The patch of blue became a constant presence in my life, and it helped to shape my worldview and my sense of hope and possibility. It reminded me that there was a whole world out there beyond the concrete and steel of the city, and that there were endless opportunities waiting for me if I was willing to reach for them.

In many ways, the patch of blue was a symbol of the boundless potential and endless possibility that I saw in myself and in the world around me. It was a small but powerful reminder that no matter where I was or what challenges I faced, there was always a chance to break free and rise above them.

As I look back on my childhood, the patch of blue stands out as a symbol of hope and inspiration, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Howie slapped that book down on my desk and told me to start reading. As usual, I find myself feeling calm, peaceful, and utterly happy inside after a read by Ms. Gordon takes her to his apartment and introduces he A wonderful love story. Gordon tells her she must meet more people and wait a year to find out if their love is more than friendship. I held no pity, nor passion for Selena or Gordon. The story takes place in an un-named big city in a poor district. Like the book, I like the film, if only for the scenes with Elizabeth Hartman and Sidney Poitier.

All and all I think this was a good book, but its depressing to read. The movie adaptation is quite faithful to the book, except in the ending, which is a little more hopeful. Without being surprised by the end, the book is still interesting, but very depressing. It did not hold my interest at all, and I did not appreciate the way my freshman english teacher shoved it down my throat. It is only a small book, 171 pages, but every page is a treat. Enter Natalie: his angel and introduction into faith in hard times. It does not say for sure but there is alot of open racism so I am guessing it is in the time when blacks were hated.

The Patch of Blue by Grace Livingston Hill

Selina convinces her grandfather to take her to the park, where she happens to meet Gordon Ralfe, an educated and soft-spoken black man working night shifts in an office. Maybe I just needed to hear this message in my life right now. I initially read it back in high school, ignored the blurb on the advice of the teacher, and was surprised by the twist ending. In this case, love is blind. Now Chris and Natalie will never be the same. Regular stuff out of the way first.

Poem: My " Patch of Blue " by Mary Newland Carson

The New York Times. When we have lost our money or our friends or are disappointed in our dearest ambitions, or when we are in a strange unhappy environment, then we cry out, 'How can we sing the Lord's song in a strange land? Yet, Gordon brings out the best in her and helps her to see what she's worth despite the consequences. This was an excellent book. Then, a bus arrives to pick up Selina for her trip to the school and both friends say goodbye. She quickly becomes good friends with him after only meeting him a couple times at the park. In addition, I couldn't help thinking about Shelley Winters over-the-top performance as the mother.

. Kata captures Sleena's voice beautifully -- resig A great character study of a young blind girl being raised by her abusive mother and alcoholic grandfather in the 1960's and how one man can make a difference in the life of someone else. I read this at fourteen, I think, and absolutely loved it. At the end of every day Sleena is tormented and put down by her mother. But slowly it started to grow on me. The Patch of Bluewas published in 1932, just a few years into "The Great Depression".

She is abused and brutalized by her mother. There's something which feels good about visiting yesteryear on her terms. About how different their lives would be if they met in today's society, if they'd had more than a patch to grow on. Recommended to all probably 13+, I'd say , especially as a study in culture, history, and racism. As usual, Grace gives us something to think about in her story, and if it's a little preachy, I don't mind. I initially read it back in high school, ignored the blurb on the advice of the teacher, and was surprised by the twist ending.

Even though she is blind she is expected to do everything such as cooking, cleaning, and anything else they beg of her to do. Although I read this work and taught it in high school over thirty years ago, I can still vividly recall S This novel is a truly insightful and very moving exploration of racism. This never comes to pass. We know she's pure in heart because she's blind. Penguin Press HC, The. But she still can remember what some things look like.

I like the idea of the story of a young black man befriending a blind white girl and liberating her so to speak so she can experience the outside world, but this was just too depressing for me and a bit manipulative. Sleena is a young girl that has been blind for years. While Rose-Ann is out, Selina runs away to the park, and, with some difficulty, meets Gordon. She met a guy named Gordon, he noticed Sleena was blind and Sleena could feel how he was staring at her. Every time I opened it I was completely immersed into the character of Selina.

I shall see them sometime, somewhere, At rest on the shining shore. At first glace, I hated this book. There is just something about a person that has to endure a filthy lifestyle and is forced to play a part they never wanted or asked for that just gets to me. After the day I'd just spent, why did I have to think only of these dreadful things? It is pure and unadulterated emotion building, beautifully told story of an innocent blind white girl, victim of a poverty stricken family who have survived in the only ways they know with prostitution and alcoholism a by-product. Despite Rose-Ann's resistance, Gordon manages to take Selina away when the crowd of white people looks at Rose-Ann's anger and hysterics towards Gordon with disdain and ignores her pleas to stop the Black man from walking away with her daughter. Finding Selina missing from the apartment, Rose-Ann takes Ole Pa to the park and confronts Gordon. I have loved Sydney Poitier ever since as an actor.

There's a lot about being humbled here, and coming to find what it means to really put hard work into what you believe in. Constantly saying she isnt good enough and just dumb and blind. There's a lot about being humbled here, and coming to find what it means to really put hard work into what you believe in. It bothered me quite a bit that many of my fellow classmates couldn't read aloud as fast as I, because I just wanted to finish the book, complete the review, pass the test and move on to something else. The true test of a thankful heart is to be able to sing praise when things are going all wrong. It is the color of the man's blood; the man slashed by her father, Harry's knife when he caught him with her mother, Rose-Ann. This is a remarkable story of a young blind woman blinded in a horrible accident kept sheltered by her ignorant, and yes, evil, guardians.
