Pelzer's story begins in the 1970s, when he was just a young child living in Daly City, California. From an early age, he was subjected to emotional, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of his mother, who saw him as nothing more than a burden and a source of frustration. Pelzer's mother was a violent and volatile woman who seemed to take pleasure in causing her son pain and suffering. Even Stan knows Mother is out of control. She often sleeps through her days, getting up only to prepare minimal meals or to get herself another drink. However, from a logical point of view, the punishments received are sometimes deemed to be unbelievable of he survived the deal without being critically ill. One of the greater obstacles to healing for males is admitting that they have been victims, especially if their perpetrator is a woman. I have just recently discovered this so called "drama" surrounding Dave Pelzer and his validity.
See where I'm going with this? Omaha, NE: Omaha Press. Catherine forced David to drink spoonfuls of ammonia, bleach, and dishwashing liquid throughout this time whenever she felt that he needed a special punishment. Maybe its not 100% accurate, because he is recalling the events 20 years later, but so what? I guess the only reason people aren't crying "false" on her accounts is because she isn't here to confirm or deny, and it would be tacky to call the deceased a liar. A few days following, Catherine told David that he could not go to his boy scout meeting with his brothers; with his brothers out of the house, Catherine held David's arm against the open flame on the gas stove. This makes both stories appear more authentic. It takes a long time to sort things out and there are many things to sort out. Catherine also began to punish David more severely. Some people deny the abuse ever happened; I'm of the opinion it happened but not to the extent he claimed. Thus you become frightened, and even attack the person's character.
Pelzer's mother made up the lie he was taken for setting fires to everyone to protect her own reputation but her son Richard has since come forward with two books about how after David left he became the new substitute for her to abuse. About a month before I entered the fifth grade, I came to believe that for me, there was no God. The fact that Richard's story is so similar but has some very distinct differences that show that Rovera is afraid to go as far with Richard as she did with David Richard is not starved at all and Richard is made to eat worstershier sauce instead of the amonia that could have killed David, shows her only concern is that this time her child does not wind up close to death causing others to notice, with Richard she does the same horrifying emotional abuse and neglect but leaves out the extreme physical tortures and never starves him and lets him get emaciated like David. People also seem to negate his story, because if it were true, his brothers and father would have done something. I can see an abuser forcing a child into a freezing shower for 10-15 minutes but to make them lie in freezing water for hours on end? Then there's the 'lying in freezing water'. When his mother allowed him the luxury of food, it was nothing more than spoiled scraps that even the dogs refused to eat.
