I hope to get a demonstrator the third generation of the stored-heat solar cooker working in a few months. I have never used the frenell lens to cook with yet but I know its true power and I would say get a daytime model up and running real soon as many people Im sure wouldnt care right now. Even people who barbecue as a matter of choice have increasingly looked towards alternative methods to be more environmentally friendly. It does not say for how long you can have high heat in the cooking area, probably for a few hours. The mirror was MUCH LARGER than the lens depicted here.
Regarding the fuel cell, I would caution the students to consider what else might be done, destructively, with the fuel. Water in a container, heated by the sun, evaporates. Our Parents who are always there to guide and support us in all our activities, encouraging us to do more and to give more of ourselves. Of course, this in no way invalidates the concept. In addition, the solar powered grill would have a lithium nitrate battery that could store up to 25 hours worth of solar energy, enabling people to cook meals all throughout the day and night. Unfortunately, the technology incorporated into this concept cannot be made or sold that cheaply without a huge financial loss.
