The Hunger Games is a popular dystopian science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins. The novel was later adapted into a series of films, which gained widespread popularity and critical acclaim. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a Capitol city holds an annual event called the Hunger Games, in which one boy and one girl from each of the twelve districts are chosen to participate in a deadly competition in which they must fight to the death.

President Snow: President Snow is the tyrannical leader of the Capitol and the Hunger Games. He is cold and ruthless, and will stop at nothing to maintain his power and control over the districts.
Effie Trinket: Effie is the Capitol escort who is assigned to oversee the tributes from District 12. She is overly-perky and dresses in flamboyant clothing, but ultimately cares about the well-being of Katniss and Peeta.
Primrose Everdeen: Prim is Katniss's younger sister, who she is fiercely protective of. Prim is kind and compassionate, and serves as a source of hope and inspiration for Katniss during the Hunger Games.
Cinna: Cinna is the stylist who is responsible for designing and styling the outfits that Katniss and Peeta wear in the Hunger Games. He is kind and supportive, and becomes a close friend to Katniss.
Gale Hawthorne: Gale is a close friend and hunting partner of Katniss, who she has known since childhood. He is fiercely loyal and protective of Katniss, and plays a significant role in the story.
Johanna Mason: Johanna is a female tribute from District 7 who participates in the Hunger Games with Katniss and Peeta. She is tough and resourceful, and becomes an ally to Katniss in the Hunger Games.
Finnick Odair: Finnick is a male tribute from District 4 who participates in the Hunger Games with Katniss and Peeta. He is charming and handsome, but also has a deep and troubled past.

Coriolanus reports the plot to the Capitol, for which Sejanus is hanged. She attacked Katniss but Thresh smashes Clove's head with a rock. Undersee: Wife of the mayor of District 12. She is a close friend of Madge. Her main weapon used was a bow and arrows. In Mockingjay, rebel president Coin sends Prim as a casualty nurse into the final battle against the Capitol, where she is killed in a bombing, which sends Katniss into deep depression and resulting in the momentary loss of her voice. She was taken hostage by District 13 until Katniss rescued them.

Buttercup has black and white fur in the first film contrary to his name , but in later films better fits the books' description of him. After her sister died she suffered from massive headaches that lasted throughout her entire life. Johanna is part of the committee that votes whether to hold one last Hunger Games using the Capitol's children. Delly does not appear in the film series, her role instead being taken by Prim. After the Capitol is defeated, he returns to District 12 with Katniss and marries her.
