Dante confesses to Beatrice all of his sins. Freedom Road reminds of his Kraftwerk influence, despite being all American. Next, they enter the Ninth Sphere, or the Primum Mobile, home of the angels and the closest physical sphere to God. It's a theft that comes off as dumbfoundingly obvious and wholesale. In this way the pilgrim Dante is a dynamic character, moving from sin to salvation, from ignorance to wisdom, from despair to joy, through his journey toward God. It has three parts: Inferno Hell , Purgatorio Purgatory and Paradiso Heaven. For better or worse, Dante does provide his definitive answer to the classic question of philosophy: is conduct right because the Gods demand it, or do the Gods demand it because it is right? Surely Uncle Noël himself would at this raise a glass of gin and wave it generally in the direction of the Barbican.
While how far good ends justify dubious means is not an uncommon consideration—here, the characters who refuse to bend the rules seem to lack empathy and ultimately to be the less moral ones—the intriguing line of inquiry that the play pursues regarding whether the motivations behind good deeds matter is less often explored outside of theological debates about faith versus works, anyway. It's certainly a lot less melodramatic, and that's both a strength and a weakness. At the end of Purgatorio, Virgil leaves Dante. Summary of Dante's Purgatorio After Inferno, in Purgatorio, Dante and Virgil wash up on the shores of Purgatory. The fact that fans rejoiced over the change probably says all you need to know about this black sheep of an album. Such division reflects the medieval theology specific to Christianity.

The best that can be said for the songs in which Hannon investigates the lives of imaginary ordinary people doing slightly contrived things — enjoying coach travel, getting frisky in Cromer — is that they are delivered magnificently, with his excellent band on point. Dante the pilgrim, as distinct from the historical Dante the poet, is the personification of the human soul. Dante Aligheri chose not only to ignore this tradition, but wrote The Divine Comedy in a more primitive version of the Italian language—the Tuscan dialect. Godrich's recent work actually surfaces in quite a few places on Regeneration, though the little ambient noises and the tape-manipulated wash of sound that close "Eye of the Needle" represent the only time they really come to the fore. The love that inspires Beatrice to act can also, allegorically, suggest spiritual love. Lesson Summary Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy is one of the most critically lauded works of Renaissance literature. The behind-the-scenes clips sprinkled into the closing credits are a fun conclusion to an entertaining show presented in support of a good cause.
