The Child Development Associate (CDA) Competency Standards are a set of national standards used to evaluate the knowledge and skills of early childhood educators in the United States. Professional Relationships: This competency statement focuses on the importance of building and maintaining professional relationships with children, families, colleagues, and the community. Early childhood educators should be able to establish and maintain positive, supportive relationships with children and their families, as well as communicate effectively with colleagues and other professionals in the field. They should also be able to advocate for children and families and build partnerships within the community to support the needs of children and families.
